To say that I come from a long line of teachers would be quite the understatement. Both of my parents are teachers. My grandparents were teachers. The vast majority of both sides of my family are teachers. Since childhood, my life has been enriched with stories and firsthand experiences of these kind and generous people giving

all they have for their students. This has left me with a profound respect for the profession, and a desire to follow in their footsteps.

Before and during my undergraduate Sociology degree, a large portion of my spare time was devoted to tutoring Taiwanese youths in English. I relished my time with these students, telling stories and crafting fun games for them to participate in, to better facilitate their learning experience. The group I taught was comprised of 5-18 year olds, and focused on Basic English conversation and speech writing, and TOEFL/SAT preparation. When the time eventually came for me to focus more intently on my own studies, I was deeply saddened, and I still believe that this was one of the happiest memories from my early adult life.

After graduation, I began working as a journalist for Caixin Media. I spent time in Beijing, Taipei, New York, and Washington D.C. I have been blessed with an engaging and exciting career, filled with such honors as interviews with the First Lady prior to her visit to China, and Jack Lew regarding US/China relations. And yet, my fondest memories once more involved education. I was invited to events such as the White House Easter Egg Roll and Bring Your Kids to the White House Day, where I was again inspired, this time with an interest in the

American education system.

Overall, I served two years as a US correspondent, with a focus on Finance, Economics, and US/China relations. Above all else, I have learned the importance of effective communication, especially across language barriers.
